As we worked today, I felt challenged by Laura. She had somewhat of a negative attitude at times as we were working. I have chalked it up to the lingering effects of a lazy Spring Break. Even my husband noticed. It made me realize how easy it is to have the wrong attitude.
Our Bible verse we began today was Philippians 4:8. What are we to focus on? What are we to allow in our brains? It was totally a God thing that we discussed this today, on the very day that Laura was a bit moody and pouting through some of her work.
Ironically, I realized that I have the same tendency. My husband and I had been waiting for a few days now for some paperwork to be finished by one person that needed to be turned in to a different office. Today was the due date. My husband called this morning only to be told that it wasn't started yet. Immediately I was impatient and aggravated. However, Philippians 4:8 was in our Bible Study. Irony? Maybe. Definitely God was getting not just Laura's attention but mine too.
I quickly prayed a short prayer placing the situation in God's hands. By late afternoon, the paperwork was completed and turned in to the appropriate place. I almost allowed myself to get very upset for something that was in God's hands anyway.
Negativity is so easy that it is no wonder it is a favorite tool of Satan. I saw it in my own mind and heart today. I have battled it for a long time. Luckily, God is patient with me. I saw it in my daughter and know that God is trying to get both of us to control our thoughts and weed out those negative tendencies.
8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
