Yesterday we honored my Grandma for her 80th birthday. Her family and friends showed up to wish her well and to tell stories. Oh, the stories were varied, with some humorous and some heart-wrenching. I learned a lot about the wonderful woman that has been such an inspiration to me.
My Grandmother has come from a line of God-fearing ministers. She herself has traveled doing music and evangelism when she was younger. I learned two great things about my Grandmother. First, she has been an example of a woman that loves Jesus for more than just me. She has touched many lives just by her loving example. Second, my Grandmother has no enemies. She is loved by so many that I was overwhelmed. She touched more than just family, she has had loyal friends for years.
I also learned that I have a very musical family. Many of them, including my daughters Kim and Tasha, sang songs for Grandma. My Uncle sang a song that just brought the place to tears. I was very proud of Laura too. She didn't sing, but she got up in front of everyone and told her Great-Grandma how much she loved her and wanted to be like her.
We had excellent food. It's not a family gathering without great food. We limited children to her Great-Grandchildren, and they got to see how loved Grandma was without lots of other kids running around.
She may be a little lady, but she is very loved. Here Tasha was wishing her Happy Birthday.
Here is Grandma with her children, my two uncles and my mother.
Laughing with a close relative, Grandma had such a good time.
The decorations were beautiful, thanks to my very talented sister. A gorgeous dozen roses, a gift, accented things beautifully.
Gift time for Grandma. Even a lady of eighty loves getting new, pretty things.
God blessed me with a wonderful Grandma. If I could tell you even half of the wonderful things this lady has done for me, it would take up pages and pages of blog entries. My inspiration, I pray that God allows me to walk with Him and honor Him the way I have seen my Grandma do my whole life. The stories I heard from before I was born only reinforce the respect and awe I have for this lady.
