A couple weekends ago I had the privilege of hearing and meeting Susanne Cox. Along with her husband, Ron Cox, Susanne was the speaker at Indiana's Assembly of God Women's Convention. It was an amazing time.
Susanne Cox has a testimony that almost seems too amazing to be true. Yet her story and her husband's is not only true, but very inspiring. Mark Sims, who has worked with and known Ron Cox for years, wrote a book about the Cox's lives. Call It Incredible is such an inspiring story that a movie is planning to be made.
Ron's story begins with his childhood in poverty. Against the odds he gave his life to Christ, went to ministry school, married a wonderful woman, and started a family of his own. Just when you want to cheer about his triumphs, life took a different turn. His beautiful wife developed Huntingtons. The story of the unbelievable trials and deep devotion... not only to marriage vows but to Jesus... had me crying as I read. Who was I to complain when compared to this man?
Then, the story of Susanne added to the power of the book. From abuse to addiction to near suicide, the testimony of Susanne's life touched every single woman at the convention. Reading about it in the book only made the impact and the power of Jesus Christ more real. Her acceptance of Christ as Savior is one of those transformation stories that just make you realize how wonderful our Savior truly is. Then, as Susanne walked in obedience to God's word, the adventure really began. From "Date Nights" with the Holy Spirit, to Bible College and Mission work in India, the story is jam packed with the power of what Jesus wants to do in our lives.
The cover of the book kind of tells the story. Indiana to India, two people were brought together by God. Trust me when I say that only God could have brought together this amazing couple. Hearing them in person at the convention was life-changing for me. Dealing with illness, exhaustion, and depression, worried that I wasn't going to be able to follow what I feel God has called me to, I went to the convention ready to quit everything. I came home not just refreshed, but recharged with the Holy Spirit's power. My perspective in better order, I am so amazed that Jesus loves me that much.
My testimony may be a bit different than that of Susanne or Ron, but I know how far Christ has brought me. He brought me from a world of divorce, pain, fear, intimidation, rejection, and rage. He blessed me with a husband that is the most gentle man I've ever met. God gave me my precious daughters. He forgave my sins, which I know were black and haunting. He loved me enough to guide me, to bless me with His Holy Spirit, and to live in me. Without Him, I am a shell. He led me to homeschooling, and nothing has ever been the same for my family.
My oldest daughter is talking about leaving in the fall for Master's Commission. She wants to live her life for Jesus, singing for Him and ministering for Him. God has brought her out of a place where I feared she was slipping away from Him.
All these amazing stories, and I know it is all because of Jesus Christ. The book title is appropriate. There is only one thing to call the power of God... Call It Incredible.
