The Best Laid Plans...

We shall see how this week goes.  Laura and I have a full week, but a week that I think will be interesting.  I've mixed things up a bit.  I'm giving Laura a missionary break in Social Studies.  She's been studying missionaries for quite a long time in ACE.  I decided to give her a break and use a very simple but wonderful book I bought at a yard sale this past weekend.

My America and My World is an Abeka first grade textbook that I don't believe they even use much anymore. However, I looked it over and it is so cute.  It's a great way to refresh Laura's memory of some American History.  She's going to be reading it through.  I think she'll enjoy it immensely.  It's simple and easy for her, but I am hoping that she'll enjoy the ease and just learn.

Laura is taking a break from all of our ACE curriculum to explore some other paths. (We've finished most of them for the year anyway.)  We are going to do a lot of Reading Aloud.  I've planned out some copywork and English assignments around the story 'My Story' by Helen Keller.  I want to see how Laura responds to this kind of work for a couple weeks.  I am trying to plan next year, but I don't want to buy any more curriculum that doesn't work for us.  ACE has been great, but money has become an issue with curriculum.  If I am going to buy, I am being careful to select things I might be able to reuse later or things that aren't overly pricey.

For Science, Laura is going to be watching the video The Privileged Planet tomorrow.  After that we will continue with the Earth Science lessons we have been reading.  This week we begin studying the oceans of our earth.

We are also doing something a little different for Bible study this week.  We are going to read The Prayer of Jabez for Kids together.  This was another find I got at Goodwill a couple weeks ago.  I keep meaning to read books like this and devotionals with Laura, but I tend to procrastinate.  For this week, it is scheduled.

I've scheduled the week, but I know how easily things can get sidetracked.  So, I'm leaving this week in God's capable hands.  We will do our best, and trust Him for the rest.
