My Laura is a good little cook. She is getting better all the time too. A few years ago we started making things homemade to save money. To my surprise, the kids not only eating homemade food (who doesn't?), but they enjoy making it as well.
When Laura's school plans called for her to make Hamantashen for our study of Esther and Purim, Laura was excited. We don't always do all the cooking plans we come across for school. This one seemed exciting. Esther is Laura's absolute Favorite Bible Story. She used to beg us to read it to her at bedtime. So when we got to study Esther's life, it was a treat.
Laura pretty much made the Jewish treat herself. Mommy was in charge of buying the ingredients and showing her how to fold the pastry. Since I had never made the cookies myself, I was praying they would turn out.
Laura did an exquisite job. They were yummy.
That evening we read the story of Esther. As is done in the Jewish celebration of Purim, every time the name of Haman is said, Laura was to block it out with the sound of her Gragger. It was so much fun! After the story, the whole family enjoyed the Hamantashen!
