I went to the library the other day to check out a book. By the doors to the children's section were a few boxes of books for free. I started going through them and ended up coming home with 16 books. Some are for Laura, and some are for Megan. There was a couple treasures in the pile, but my favorite find was Caddie Woodlawn.
When I was a girl my Elementary School went on a field trip to a very old lady's home. The lady was related to Carol Ryrie Brink (the author and Caddie's granddaughter) and Caddie Woodlawn. She gave us all a free book and told us some stories.
I read the book as a young girl and just fell in love with Caddie Woodlawn. I totally could relate to the tom-girl. While my adventures never included Indian tribes or many of her other adventures, I just felt a kinship with the girl. I spent a lot of time on my grandma's farm playing with my uncle (who is only 4 years older) and my cousins ( who are boys). I must have read that book over and over. I don't know what ever happened to my copy.
I had planned on buying the book for Laura. I hope she gets the same enjoyment out of it that I did. We'll probably read it next year. To get it handed to me for free was so awesome. I guess God decided to bless me.
