I have spent so much time online looking at curriculum that I probably could have written my own. Of course, that might have scary results. I have looked at Sonlight, Weaver (I have Volume 1), My Father's World, Heart of Dakota, Konos...and the standard Abeka. Many of them are very good. As you can tell, I kind of lean toward unit studies. Even with one child, I just like how they work versus text books.
I haven't made any final decisions yet. I thought I had when I purchased Weaver off ebay, but now I may change my mind. I love the bible based history. I think the Weaver curriculum looks amazing. The fact that I can use library books for most of the studies is very beneficial. The projects look so fun. Yet, I feel led to a couple other things too. I may hold on the Weaver for a bit, and look into other programs.
My Father's World looks interesting. Laura would be using Exploring Countries and Customs. I think it would be neat to travel around the world learning geography and studying the lives of missionaries. I might be able to get some of the studies to coincide with our Stars missions lessons.
However, I really have just fallen in love with the book selections in Heart of Dakota. I may even look into their preschool program for my little Megan. She turns two soon, and their programs can begin as early as two. Laura would be using Preparing Hearts for his Glory. She would get a quick year of Biblical World History. Heart of Dakota has begun to publish a four year History cycle for after PHFHG. That would flow nicely next year if I choose the program.
Of course, like many, money is an issue. I have to be very careful with our money. Any program I purchase will have to be bought slowly and used if it can be found. I bought a copy of Grandpa's Box used. Wow! From the little I have read, I am totally impressed.
I am not sure about anything yet. This is an issue that requires more prayer. I want to do what is right for Laura and for our family. That can only be accomplished through some prayer time. My husband doesn't care as long as his daughters are being taught a solid Christian education. He is trusting me to pick what I believe will work best. Yeah, No Pressure!
