Ice Storm 2008

We woke up about three a.m. to the sound of cracking and crashing. The weather report didn't miss this time. Ice covered branches and electric lines all over the area. The tree next to our house was taking a severe hit. The branches kept falling over and over all night long. Large branches falling from 30-plus feet in the air. We still do not know the extent of the damages.
We lost power not long after the branches started crashing down. Schools and pretty much everything closed down.
Ironically, though Laura didn't get much school work done, I still had her finish up a couple things. Mostly I wanted her to keep busy since the house was cold and there was nothing else to do. She finished Chalk Box Kid, did a math lesson and a few pages in Language Arts. Other than that, we did no Science or Social Studies.
The power came back on around two. I am grateful that we have heat now and everything seems back on-line...satellite, phone, internet. I think the utility company will have to shut our power off again to get the branches off the line and fix any damage. However, I don't expect them to make it here until tomorrow with the widespread power outages.
