We are finishing up studying the Human Body in the next week or so. This is an area that we could probably study for awhile, but I don't want Laura to get begin to get bored or lose fascination. We have been studying the bones and the skeletal system, and we decided to do our first at home science experiment. The experiment comes from the Learn At Home book. We took a clean chicken bone and put it in vinegar. In a couple weeks it is supposed to tell us what happens to bones without calcium. Supposedly, the Bone will bend.
I took before pictures of the bone to compare later after two weeks of the bone sitting in vinegar. Laura seemed to like the fact that she got to do this. She likes hands on stuff.
I am so new at this. I don't like the language program that Laura is doing. I went to Barnes and Noble and bought a writing book to go with the Reading Skills and Language Arts book. Laura just seems to be bored by them. Or maybe they are hard for her. I'm not sure. It just isn't what I want, but right now I can't afford to buy something else for a week or two. Laura seems to have the problem with the grammar. She is getting into new stuff and she says she don't get it. I think I'm going to look at some online stuff to see if there are any games or something else she can do. She reads wonderfully, and is a good speller. Maybe it is just the fact that she is learning pronouns.
I know I need to research more, but my research time is obviously going to be limited this week. Plus, I don't like to change things too much cause that might cause more issues than it solves. I know I have a lot of work to do before I choose my curriculum for next year. I like ACE and A Beka because there is so much about God in the lessons. I like that. It feels just like an extra bible lesson snuck in with her work. And Grammar is mostly workbook stuff, so I don't have a problem using workbooks for this subject. I am just overwhelmed by the choices.
I bought the Flash Kids Harcourt workbooks because I could see them. They were at Barnes and Noble, versus the other curriculum that is mostly online and I can't physically thumb through. I'll do some research and see. In the meantime I'll keep using what I've bought.
