Laura and I began this book together for a history study with a guide by Queen's Homeschool. While the guide was wonderful, we loved the book so much that we just ended up reading it by itself. It was awesome. Laura liked when I read the story to her because I would give Amos, the mouse, a bit of an English accent. It may have sounded horrible, but it was fun. There were a couple days where I couldn't read to Laura. So, she just jumped in and read the book herself. There was a couple of days where a sister would read a chapter to her or dad would read, but Laura ended up doing a lot of the last chapters on her own.
The story centers around the life of Benjamin Franklin. However, it is told from the point of view of his fictional friend, a mouse named Amos. It is such a delightful read that Laura never realized just how much she was learning about the life of Benjamin Franklin. From the invention of the Franklin Stove through his adventures with electricity to his eventful trip to Paris, the life of Benjamin Franklin was never so much fun as when shown through the life of a mouse.
I am looking forward to the other books by Robert Lawson. If they are half as fun as Ben and Me than I am sure they will be delightful.
