Laura just finished Find the Constellations using the Heart of Dakota Preparing Hearts for His Glory plans. She enjoyed the study of the stars. Some of the things she read were brand new, and some she said she learned in public school.
Find the Constellations is a science book all about the different galaxies and constellations. This is one of those books that is a genuine living book. Written like the author is talking to the student in a conversational style, there is a lot of information about the different constellations and how they got their names. There's some of the mythology behind the stories, but Heart of Dakota is wonderful with applying the Bible to the lessons too.
Heart of Dakota is wonderful. The plans were very thorough. On one page in the book Finding the Constellations is a reference to evolutionary theory. The plans state this and gives the parents warning so that the one sentence can be blacked out if they don't want their children to read that sentence. The Preparing Hearts plans have no evolutionary theory.
This study of the constellations was neat. There are lots of things in the study that I didn't know. Finding the different constellations in the book and doing Preparing Hearts' experiments was a blast. Laura loves the experiments. She gets a lot out of them. While the opportunity is there to go outside and study the stars, we didn't really do that since the weather is so cold this time of year. However, it isn't necessary when you have all the wonderful experiments to make things very visual for a child that learns better than way.
