I had heard of the Sower Series since I began homeschooling. Finally, I decided to pick up a couple of the books and check them out. I started with George Washington, Man of Prayer and Courage.
This was a great book. I used it as a read aloud with Laura. I enjoyed it very much. As for Laura, I think it is kind of a mixed review for her. She loved many parts of the book. Some of the battles were exciting, but some of the times where Washington and his troops were waiting for orders or waiting to go into battle were boring for Laura.
This book quoted many of George Washington's original writings. It became very plain to see, throughout reading the book, that George did have a strong faith in God. He lived a life of privilege in many areas, but wasn't afraid to live with nothing for his country. He fought hard for the British against the French and Indians. Then, when the situation changed for the colonists, he was even more devoted to gaining freedom for America. He freely wrote about how, in many of his battles, he survived because God was with him.
Wanting to show God's hand in the history of the United States as the Christian beliefs of many of our founding fathers, the Sower Series is definitely a series that will assist me in that goal. I am looking forward to reading other novels in the series. I am curious to know how Laura will react to Abigail Adams.
