Summer Library Schedule

This morning, at the local library, I picked up the summer schedule.  With the exception of finding out the VBS dates, I have nearly all the information for our summer activities.  This makes things much easier for me to plan other things, like family activities and even some schooling time.

Tuesdays look to be VERY full with the library.  My toddler will have Story Hour at one.  Summer Reading for Laura will be at 2:30.  Read with me for both girls will be at 3:15.    On Fridays, our library holds what they call Ice Cream Fridays.  They reward kids with ice cream cones that have been reading or have been read to at home.  Trust me, my kids never turn down ice cream.

We have been involved in this program every year since we moved into this town.  At our last town we were totally involved in the library summer reading programs.  Most of these programs are really good.  As a homeschooling parent, I know the value of utilizing the library.  I've made friends with the librarians.

Most librarians are very sweet.  If there is a book I need, they will do their best to get it for me on inter-library loan.  One lady even told me that, though their budget was limited, she might be able to order certain books if she thought they would be beneficial to other children.  I told her I would bring her a catalog of a couple literature based homeschool curricula to give her an idea of what is being used.  She knows homeschooling is growing, even in small towns like where we live.  Chances are my girls aren't the only homeschoolers that will use the library around here.  I expect that, in the near future, the growth of homeschooling will hit even my little town.

My summer is shaping up to be a busy one.  I have one teen that is going to be gone for  youth camp for two weeks.  Another one will be gone for one.  We have the library program, VBS, and Wednesday's free movies at the movie theater in the next town.  Wednesday evenings will be Mpact girls and Youth group.  My step daughter will be with us for a few weeks full time.  She will have tutoring.  Laura will have reading and some math work.  The truth is that this schedule is still pretty light.  No one is doing sports this summer.  I really just want some quality time with my children this year.  My oldest begins college in August.  My next daughter will be a senior in high school.  I know my children are growing up fast, and I want to enjoy the memories of them all living under one roof before those days pass away.
