This week went pretty much on schedule. We lagged behind in a couple places. That was mostly due to things that came up and interfered.
Math - Laura is doing so much better in math. Her problems now seem to stem from little errors, especially if she is rushing.
Science - We took a week off of ACE (because I was waiting for materials) and read. Laura read The Magic School Bus Insect Invaders. I asked her if she liked it. She shrugged and said this one was gross.
Social Studies - Laura learned about India this week. She learned some of the names of the main cities and landmarks. She learned a little about Mount Everest. She will finish off some of her studies of India next week with lessons on the animals, crops, the Taj Mahal, the people, and missionaries to India.
Spelling - Laura aced her spelling this week. I gave her the pre-test on Wednesday, and she got them all correct. When that happens, I make her finish her workbook pages but I don't make her take the Friday test.
English - Laura is still working on verbs. The focus this week has been on state-of-being verbs. She hasn't had any problems with these.
Literature and Creative Writing - Laura is up to chapter 14 of The Red Rag Riddle. That means we are nearly finished. By mid week next week we should be done and moving on to Charlotte's Web. We read Charlotte's Web last year as a read aloud. Laura loved the book and often read some of it on her own. I was going to skip it at first since we have read it before, but changed my mind. She loves the book, and the lessons ACE has to go with it are awesome. Laura will cover dictionary skills, a little science about spiders, and main ideas of paragraphs. This is just for the first half of the book.
Bible - Laura read about Jethro, Moses, and Aaron. She read about the Exodus out of Egypt. She studied a little about the ten commandments and the Promised Land.
Reading - Laura finished The Case of the Giggling Ghost. She started the book Twenty and Ten.
Read Aloud - We are five chapters into Little House on the Prairie. We didn't get as much read as we wanted, but we are having an awesome time reading anyway.
Character Building - This week in ACE Laura worked on Praise, being Efficient, being Discreet, being Humble, and being Respectful.
On a side note, my oldest daughter and my step-daughter (my two public schooled girls) went to the state solo and ensemble contest. This was my step-daughter's (pictured) first year to go. She only competed in the ensemble, but did wonderfully.
My oldest competed in many areas. On her solo she got Gold and is going to the state competition in February.
