I have read all the Millie Keith books written by Martha Finley. I have to say that they are amazing works. I'm still a couple books shy of reading the Elsie books, but I am working on them. I've decided that these will be our read alouds for awhile. Laura has slowly been reading the first Millie book, Millie's Unsettled Season, in her spare time. I've decided to take over from where she is and just keep reading them to her. If she wants to read them on her own later, I would be thrilled.
There are eight books in the Millie series at the library. We own the first Millie book and Millie's Prayer Projects, which I plan to use to give Laura some extra ideas on prayer and developing her relationship with God. There are a couple of other books that I might invest in if I get the money, but I can check out the books at the library until I can invest.
After Millie, I plan to move on to Elsie. There are a couple of other characters too, and we might read them eventually.
We are reading the re-written versions of Martha Finley's works. I haven't read them all, but the books I have read have been amazing. I wrote a review of Millie's Unsettled Season recently. My opinion of the books only gets better and better. I wish I would have known about these books when I was a girl. They are so great for drawing a heart close to God.
The characters in these books are unforgettable. The main characters are such good examples. They read their Bibles, and work hard on their relationship with Jesus. They pray and go through good and bad times. They make mistakes. They get sick. They lived in America at a time when things were difficult for many people. These books have been a tremendous influence on me as an adult Christian woman. I know the influence they could hold for young girls.
