It's just three weeks.
I have spent this week working at a tax preparation business. It is three weeks of extra income. I took the job thinking it would be a few hours in the afternoons. Instead, I am scheduled nearly fifty hours a week.
I am not complaining. The extra funds will help our finances. Many homeschooling parents work and homeschool. Some homeschool moms work summers or own a their own business. I haven't worked much since I began homeschooling because I had a little one. However, she is no longer as little.
Three weeks isn't that long, but it is an adjustment. I have my homeschool routine, and I take my job as homeschool mom and teacher seriously. It has been a few years since I've left to work outside the home. It is an adventure (or I've chosen to see it this way). I have to dust off the dormant "career woman" and "working mama" focus and energy.
After just a couple of days I am grateful that I get to stay home with my daughters most of the time. The job isn't overly difficult. In fact, I usually keep myself busier at home. I should probably appreciate the fact that I am getting out of the house and am hanging out with adults all day.
But... I enjoy teaching my girls. I like being around them. We have good days and bad, but teaching is fulfilling in a way that working outside the home never filled.
I am in my eighth year homeschooling, and I love what I do. Yes, financially, it is a struggle. I may have to occassionally work a small job. I may have to stick to a tight budget. I may have to accept living with less than others around me that have two-income homes. I'm okay with that.
After two days, I am reminded of why God called me to stay home. Waiting on customers doesn't give me the same satisfaction as serving my family.
