Faith of our Fathers

Yesterday I had the privilege to see Faith of our Fathers at the theater.  I wanted to write a review because the movies being filmed today for the glory of the Lord Jesus bring such a great message.  We fill our heads and hearts, day after day, with the stuff on television and in our culture that is damaging to our souls.  Jesus is not glorified in most of what is available.  So when movies and books and TV shows do come out that seek to give glory to the Lord, as Christians, we should put our support behind the projects.

Faith of our Fathers introduced us to two sons of men that were drafted and served in the Vietnam War.  One son is searching for information about his father, and is led to the other son.  The fathers had served together in the war.

As we watch this odd pair take a journey to the Vietnam War Memorial, on an adventure filled with mishap after mishap, we get a glimpse into the lives of the fathers through one man's letters to his son, and through flashbacks dramatizing what the letters contained.  We see a bond form in Vietnam between another odd pair, with different beliefs, fighting for their lives. One soldier is a Christian, one is not.  One son is a Christian, one is not.

As these sons learn about their fathers, we see this journey is about more than traveling to a monument, but a journey of faith passed down, of learning about the men these sons never got to know, and of learning how God can work even years after men have left this earth.

I enjoyed this movie.  I admit to being a bit of a sap, but Christian movies remind me of Jesus' parables.  Jesus told parables or stories to illustrate lessons.  I think we should follow that example and tell amazing stories of how God works in our lives.
