I spent an entire Sunday simplifying the homeschool workload. That means cutting out some things, and stretching out some other things. The result?
Sanity. While my older girls didn't get as much simplification as I desired, it's a work in progress. However, much of my teaching time is spent with my seven year old. While extraordinarily independent for her age, she is easily distracted. She can do the work, as long as I can keep her focused on the task in front of her.
For my second grade girl, I cut out notebooking with her reading. Once in awhile will be fine, but I had her doing some sort of Notebooking page daily. What she had loved at first had gotten over killed by me... The mom. I dropped it. I also dropped some of the history and science. It's easy to add a little here or there, thinking it will add to the study, only to discover that it's too much for a seven year old.
This week has been less stressful for my daughter and me. The biggest benefit has been having the time to flop together on my bed after the main lessons are done and read. I am reading her Farmer Boy. We just finished Little House On the Prairie a couple weeks ago.
Last week, with all the work, I only got to read to her once. That is unacceptable! She loves being read to, and has no trouble with focus during this time. We read a couple chapters a day with ease.
