Building a Home Library

One of the major decisions for my family lately has been one concerning finances.  As much as I have loved the pre-planned, all-in-one, boxed curriculum; our finances have taken some severe hits lately.
Saving money and trusting God have become one and the same.  What probably can't happen is spending thousands every year on homeschool supplies.  Some years I can afford to purchase more extravagant purchases, and other years my budget allows for only what is most important.
Purchasing for next year is one of those "only what's most important" years.  Luckily, I've been homeschooling long enough to know that it isn't the end of the world.  I've learned how to utilize what I have, and how to build an affordable, Christian curriculum.

I've learned how to use the library, the internet, and ebooks through Kindle and Nook.  I love having resources at home, so I've learned to buy used, to constantly have my eyes open and to be thinking ahead.
Today I went to a resale shop.  It was so fun!  I was looking for Christmas, and actually found some amazing gifts.  But finding a few homeschool resources was icing on the cake!  I found Christian story books, a wonderful Story Bible, and even some readers.  Probably my favorite homeschool find was the David Barton DVD on Government.

I believe in investing in quality Christian supplies.  In fact, after my math, English, and foreign language courses; I'm planning on purchasing science and history from Christian-worldview sellers. Sometimes finding them used is difficult.  Finding them at the library is nearly impossible.  But I do believe that, at times, God will lead us to deals and ways to teach our children, even when money is in short supply.  We simply need to keep our eyes open and pray for Him to provide.
