Life has been busy in our little homeschool. Daily work continues. While daily work is happening, I spend my time teaching my Kindergartener to read, grading papers, and planning out our Bible program. There have been setbacks in our lives, but we press on. Our only running vehicle broke down, and we aren't sure we will be able to fix it quickly. But we have been able to borrow a vehicle for a bit. My oldest daughter got sick once again and was hospitalized with diabetes complications. But, she is improving. Even though she is 8 hours away, I know that Christ is with her.
I find myself spending a lot a time with Christ lately. I'm not sure where He is taking me, but I know that He is with me. I am craving my time alone with Him more than I can remember. I find myself praying more, craving the Word more.
I feel that the time for being on the fence with Christ is coming to an end in America. Apathetic Christianity just won't sustain a person any longer. I'm sure that there are many Christians that are comfortable in their lives. They make good money or they have a life that doesn't require them to step out in faith. That life isn't what is coming.
One of the things that the girls and I have been studying is the life of Joseph. We are getting ready to begin Exodus. In these lessons, we are learning about Royalty. For me, learning about the true Kingdom of Heaven, our true home, is quite impacting. Knowing that we are adopted children of God, that our King Jesus wants us to serve him is important.
As Americans, having true revelation of a Kingdom mentality is difficult. We are so accustomed to hearing about our "rights". As a Christian, our home is not here. This world will pass, but the Kingdom of Heaven will last forever.
This Bible study we are using as our shell is the Weaver Curriculum from Alpha Omega. While I am not jumping in with both barrels by using all the science and social studies aspects, I am picking and choosing what to add that will punctuate the Bible lessons. Using Ace Curriculum for my backbone takes the academic pressure off of me. Instead, when I plan our Bible lessons, I don't have to worry about planning or levels or finding materials. I can just pick and choose what I want to add depth to the lessons. And while I have heard many testimonies that Weaver is wonderful, I like the way I am using it right now. If God changes things, He'll let me know.
I want my children to not just know the Bible. I want them to be connected to it. I want them to spend time with the Lord DAILY! I want them to develop a deep relationship with the Lord. That won't happen by being passive. That won't happen by sitting on the fence. That won't happen if, as a parent, I am not an example to my daughters.
In this world, even in this country, as a Christian, we cannot be passive in our faith. We need to develop vibrant relationships with our Savior. We need to know the Word, not just get a sermon once or twice a week. We need to be led by the Holy Spirit in our decisions, or we will be easily deceived by the world. We need to be active in leading our children into closer relationships with Christ. If we don't lead them, who will they follow?
They will follow the world. I've seen it over and over. I've seen it with the friends of my daughters. I've seen it when I have fallen down in my own responsibility with my children. I've seen it with children and teens at our church. I've seen it and what I've seen is the norm, not the exception. If your heart's desire is for your child to follow Christ, you must realize that the battle for your child is exactly that... a battle. This battle must be fought on your knees. It must be fought in your home. It must be fought at your dining room table, with a Bible open. It must be fought by praying about your choices.
