There are no words to describe the horrible, sinking my heart did when I saw this picture. This was the car that a young, 21 year old man was driving when he left our home on Friday evening.
This young man plans to ask for my oldest daughter's hand in marriage in a few months. This young man loves Christ. This young man is studying to be a pastor so that he can serve Christ with all he has.
He left here after a fun night of cookout food and family. We had played some Phase 10 and enjoyed the time. Instinctively swerving on an "S"curve to miss a raccoon, he lost control of the car while driving home. Accidentally pushing the accelerator instead of the brake, he ended up hitting a tree.
The impact was loud. A nearby neighbor heard the crash and called 911. Luckily, a police officer arrived within a minute of the call.
The young man clung to life as he ended up being air-lifted to a large hospital two hours away. A broken sternum, broken ribs, bruised lungs, and a lacerated liver were the main injuries. It was a critical case.
Prayers went up from all around. Friends from college spread the word. Churches from all over got their prayer chains going. The young man's mother said she could feel the prayers as she and her husband drove the two hour drive to their son.
His liver sealed itself quickly, and the internal bleeding stopped. Now, four days later, he fights hard. He fights despite the horrific pain. He fights despite the complications, such as pneumonia. He fights, with my daughter by his side.
Keep this young man in prayer. His recovery will be tough. His name is Caleb.
