We are doing a special study right now on money and stewardship. I am really wanting to stress to my children that God owns everything. We have set up new chore charts and an allowance system. With their allowance, we will be learning about tithes and savings and spending.
Today we started learning about the history of money. We learned that the Native Americans used wampum beads as money. Wampum beads were made of shell usually. We made our own wampum beads out of air dry clay.
Here are some of the beads that Megan made.
Here are the beads that Laura made.
Tomorrow we hope to string the beads into either necklaces or a bracelet.
The girls also watched a 30 minute youtube video about the U.S. Mint.
Finally, in learning about money, I had Laura read the book Bunny Money to Megan. Then, they played with the reusable stickers in the back of the book.
I am looking forward to this letting hitting home. It is so easy, especially after a holiday where gifts were received, to forget that God owns everything. It is lovely to see the girls start to understand.
