The last two days have been days that make a person want to throw up their hands in despair. Whatever God is trying to teach us through this, it isn't an easy time. We are trying very hard to be patient though.
It started with a surprise yesterday morning. My husband went to the basement to feed the cats and discovered water was pouring out of our hot water heater. He quickly shut off our water, though we have no idea how long it was like that, and called a repairman.
The water heater was broken beyond repair. So, we had to buy a new one. This was definitely an unexpected expenditure. Then, we noticed our sink wasn't draining correctly. In fact, it stopped draining completely in the kitchen. In fact, it flooded our kitchen floor.
One battle at a time... we headed to the store to get a hot water heater. We replaced the broken one. Now, however, the battle with the sink and our plumbing (a battle we have fought before) is not over. Nothing seems to be working to fix the blockage. We need to call a professional, but after the hot water heater, that is a tough prospect.
We are praying for some relief. This year has already been a very rough year for us. We haven't had a lot of easy times. I am not sure what to do except pray and ask for prayer. The saying, "When it rains, it pours" definitely has fit us these past few months. Illness, crisis after crisis, one unexpected expense after another... it is all taking a toll on me and on my usually very mild mannered husband.
We aren't a family that places a big importance on material possessions. We've had years where my husband was unemployed, years where things have unexpectedly come up here and there. That's life, right? This year has been one of those years where I am just not sure how to handle the enormous amount of things that have plagued our family.
Spending a lot of time in prayer is the only thing that has kept us going through the last few months of my daughter moving out and coming back, a situation with another child that has us looking for direction (not something she is responsible for), and then my oldest almost dying and spending time in the ICU. Now, my husband's truck isn't running and our appliances and plumbing are breaking a lot faster than we can keep up. Without prayer, I would have lost it by now.
Hopefully, tomorrow will show a brighter day. His mercies are new every day and we are praying they land on us for a bit.
