Almost Lost Her

(Posted from the waiting room of the hospital.)

It was Wednesday morning that our lives nearly changed forever.  My husband came home from work and woke me up.  I hadn't heard my phone.  He told me that my oldest daughter, Kim, had been rushed to the ER while staying the night with a friend.  He left to go to the hospital while I got up my younger children and then went to pick up my teenager, Tasha, from where she was dog sitting.

I was hurrying, because my oldest is a type 1 diabetic, but I had no idea how serious her situation had become.  She had spent two days with friends at a water park and swimming.  With temperatures near 100, she knew it was hot, but being in water, she didn't realize how quickly her situation could get out of control.  By evening of the second day she was feeling ill.  By early the next morning, she nearly lost her life.
The Life-Line helicopter

She was severly dehydrated and couldn't breathe well.  She was taken to the local emergency room.  By the time I was nearing the hospital, my husband called me and informed me that the hospital was life-lining her to a larger hospital an hour away.

My heart dropped to my knees!  My Baby!!  I rushed into the ER in time to see her for a few moments before she was loaded into the helicopter. She was concious, panicked, and very sick. Watching that helicopter take off with my child was one of the hardest moments of my life.  All I could do was cry and pray.
Family in the waiting room as my daughter is being treated

The entire drive to the hospital where my daughter had been taken I prayed and cried.  We had seen my daughter ill before with diabetes complications, but nothing like this had happened.  My oldest daughter has been a diabetic for six and a half years.

It took awhile to stabilize my daughter. She was in critical.  The first day was a complete blur as she was pumped with liter after liter of fluid.  Her blood sugars were extremely high, then they dropped extremely low.  Her electrolites were out of control.  Her PH numbers indicated that she should be going into cardiac arrest.  I kept praying.  My church kept praying.  Strangers were praying.
The ICU, where we spent some long hours

Now it is Friday, and I can attest that God came through.  While still in the hospital for another day or two, she is alive.  She is concious.  She is laughing and joking.  She is off an IV, which is a miracle in itself.  She is eating regular food.  She has been moved to a regular room and out of ICU.  From what we can tell, there has been no damage either.  Praise God!

He kept her alive.  The doctors are amazed she is alive.  She is a walking testimony to the power of prayer.  I may never let her in the sun again, LOL!

When multiple doctors tell you that they don't know how your daughter is alive, you know that God worked a miracle.
