Weekly Wrap-up 4-17-09

Wow, it has been a full week. Laura has worked really hard this week to get lots done. It's been tough the last couple days with the nice weather. However, we managed.

BIBLE - Laura read this week about Elisha and Jezebel in her Old Testament Stories. In New Testament reading she was reading in Luke.

MATH - Laura did five full lessons in Abeka Math this week. She is working on her multiplication and division. She is doing well, making steady progress.

LANGUAGE - In Grammar, Laura reviewed nouns and subjects and began Verbs and Action Verbs.

HANDWRITING - Laura is done with letters. Starting next week she begins words and sentences in cursive. We took most of the year working on the basics of cursive, but it is now time to begin the challenging work.

SPELLING - Laura is doing alright in spelling. Her list this week was on making plurals by adding S or ES.

HISTORY - Laura spent the first couple of days reading about the Declaration of Independence. Then we began the Pioneer Days.

READING - Laura is reading the book "A Lion to Guard Us" by Clyde Robert Bulla. We are taking it a little slow so she can enjoy it. She reads one to two chapters per day. I picked up the book to look it through and read it all in one sitting. It is a GOOD book.

SCIENCE - Laura is still studying out of the book "One Small Square - Woods" . Now that the weather is getting nicer I want to take some nature walks with Laura. We should have almost a week left with this book. If the weather is going to be nice next week, I can easily stretch it into a week by taking a walk and exploring some of the wooded areas around us.

All in all, it was a very successful week. I am glad too, cause it felt like our weeks had gotten pretty choppy with illnesses and doctor's appointments. Laura still wants a spring break, and I have to plan one that will be satisfactory. I have gall-bladder surgery on the 30th, so I will plan for Laura's break around then.
