For my older daughters, It is Spring Break. We officially began our TV Fast last week. So far, the results are good. Oh, the nine year old is always bored. I expected that. But, for the most part the fast seems to have had positive results. Last night the 17 year old had a friend over. Instead of vegging in front of the TV as usual, they did a bible study on Ruth. How amazing is that?
Do I miss it? Yes, sometimes. I miss the routine of watching some shows. However, we popped in the movie Joshua the other day and thouroughly enjoyed it. I got that movie for Christmas and never watched it. It had been sitting on my shelf for months.
To me, I enjoy the fact that the house just seems quieter and less chaotic. Oh, we let Megan watch Blue's Clues we had recorded. However, the TV is off a lot of the time. I thought that would bug me because I am so used to the noise in the background. But it is refreshing. It is nice to not have the constant drone in the background.
Personally, I find that I am getting a lot more done with less frustration. I spend the time studying for my college ministry class or cleaning while listening to worship music or bible teachings on my IPOD. A fast isn't a fast if you aren't replacing the thing you are fasting with time with God. So, I am making a concentrated effort to spend more of my time focusing on Jesus.
