Weekend Bet

Okay, I don't really believe in gambling, despite the title I gave this blog. Yet, I struck a deal with three of my daughters for this weekend. I'll let you know at the end of the weekend how it went. I'm kind of nervous that it isn't going to go as I hope.
I have two daughters that just aren't big readers. It saddens me because reading is like breathing to me. Anyway, with a few of the books I received this week, I decided to make deals. I chose a book for Tasha (15), Jasmine (12), and Laura (8-my homeschool girl). If they finish the book by Sunday at 6p.m. they will receive $5. It's not a huge amount of money, but I hope it is a motivator. I also told Laura I would give her an extra day on our homeschool chart we use to keep track of our days. I think that is fair, considering that it will take her the whole weekend.
For Tasha, I issued her the book Heidi. She's never read it and I think she'll like it once she gives it a chance. (At least, I hope.) Tasha was the first to agree to the deal because she wants the five dollars.
For Jasmine, I issued the book Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle. It's light and I thought it might keep Jasmine's attention. She, however, hasn't even opened it yet. I'm kind of discouraged.
For Laura, I gave the book The Family Under The Bridge. Laura can devour a good book, so I'm not overly worried about her. I think she'll do it. She has already read three chapters.
Maybe I shouldn't pay the girls to motivate them. It probably sets a bad precedent. However, It's worth a shot to get them to read some good literature. The only rules are that they can't read during school unless it is free time and they can't read during church unless it is before or after. (We are at church early on Sundays for Worship Team Practice.) I guess we'll just see how this weekend goes.
