Type 1 Diabetes

Laura's has learned a lot at a young age about a disease that most kids her age know nothing about. Kimberly, Laura's oldest sister, has Type 1 diabetes. Kim was diagnosed at 13.
Laura daily lives with insulin bottles in the fridge, needles being disposed of properly, and constantly watching her sister check her blood and give herself shots.
These things don't even bother Laura. She has been around it for 4 years. In a way, this is a home education that I wish Laura didn't have to have. It's hard to watch your sister struggle with a disease like Diabetes. It's tough to watch when her blood sugar drops and she gets shaky...or when it goes sky-high and she gets sick. A couple times Kim was put in the hospital, and that was scary for everyone.
But Kim is brave and strong. She has a passion for life and for God that I pray influences Laura. Kim may have to deal with and manage a disease that is unpredictable, but she works hard on not letting that disease hold her back from her dreams.
Laura sees all this. It's tough to feel sorry for yourself about silly things some days when you see what your very own sister is up against daily.
