A study of Native Americans goes to our heads

Today was an easy day for us. We only worked half a day then had to run errands.
Laura has been studying the Native Americans since we began homeschooling almost three weeks ago. This year Laura is a Native American Princess for Halloween. Her choices are limited because we don't allow anything that represents evil. I wanted Laura to be something unique...ya know, not another Disney Princess character. When the opportunity came to borrow this costume I took it because it totally related to what we've been studying. Laura liked the costume and thought spraying her hair black was awesome. At first she thought the Indians were boring, but as we studied and read books on the different tribes and read Om-Kas-Toe, she began to be fascinated by their lives. Her favorite tribe so far is the Hopi.
It's been an interesting process for me to watch my girl learn and develop an enjoyment for something about which she really knew nothing. History is not something Laura has studied. In public school she has been in Social Studies, not History. I hope that using living books will help develop a love of history that she can't achieve with textbooks alone.
The pictures were taken at the Library costume party. Tomorrow we have our annual Harvest Fest for our church. I hope to take some really good pictures of that too.
I've thought a couple times that Laura is getting a bit lonely during the day doing school here with only 18 month old Megan to keep her company. However, she seems to be busy and doing stuff with lots of other kids. I don't think there is a lack of socialization.
