Where are They Now?

Once upon a time, five daughters lived in my home.  One by one, four of the five became homeschool students.

Now that four of them have become adults and went on with their lives, I thought it would be interesting to give an update about who they have become and what they are doing with their lives at this moment.  Homeschooling touched each one of them, including the daughter that was never homeschooled.

The first and oldest daughter is Kim.  She was my only student to graduate from public school.  We began homeschooling late in her school career.  When we decided to homeschool more of our children, we left the choice up to her if she wanted to be homeschooled.  Since she was in her senior year and very involved in the school's music department, she stayed.

She later went on to Central Bible College and then Evangel.  She married and now has two sons.  She is a licensed pastor and a worship leader.  Her husband was homeschooled and she is considering homeschooling for her own children.

My next girl is Tasha.

Tasha came home from public school her junior year after a problem with a teacher.  She was my first homeschool graduate.  After she graduated, she enrolled in Ivy Tech Community College, where she earned a degree in social work.  She then went on to hold several jobs she enjoyed.
However, she also has battled life-threatening health issues.  She currently is working at an elementary school and enjoys the job.  She is considering furthering her education.

Then came Jasmine.

Jasmine attended public school through eighth grade.  She came home to be homeschooled in high school.  She loved homeschooling much more than public school.  She graduated and began working.  She enjoys working with those with special needs and with children.  She married and, last year, she had her first child, a daughter.  She has stayed home at this time to raise her daughter.

Laura was my first homeschool student.
She was homeschooled from third grade until graduation.  She was my "guinea pig" when it came to testing new curriculum or methods.  But, the poor girl survived the great homeschool experiments and graduated with near perfect grades.  She is now a manager of a local business and became mom to a little boy last year.

Finally, there is the baby of the family, Megan.
Megan was only 18 months old when we began homeschooling.  She has never gone to public school.  She has been homeschooled from preschool.  She is currently beginning the eighth grade.  She loves to read, is artistic, sings on our church's worship team, and enjoys participating in theater groups.

I have been homeschooling since 2008.
My husband and I are the parents of this crazy, blended family of daughters.  We have been married for twenty years.  We became Christians after being married for six years.  In that time, we have had many ups and downs with our children and in our marriage, but we still love each other and the Lord.  We still believe homeschooling has been the best choice for our family, despite the sacrifices it often requires.  Our children have learned about the Lord and received a quality education in the process. What God has taught us through homeschooling our children was probably just as important as what our children learned.
It's hard to believe that we now have four grandchildren and that we are on our last homeschool daughter.  The memories have been priceless and I wouldn't trade them for anything.
