Summer Reading!

After a month of not doing much reading, Laura has picked it back up again.  Actually, all my younger ones have begun reading more.  As the mild days of June have given way to the searing heat of July, the girls are often content to sit and read a little more often.

Laura has already read through one book.  Then today at the library she saw that they have the Millie series.  We had read the first one aloud this past year.  She decided to get the next one in the series.  I laughed and told her to pick up the third one too.  I've already read them and know they are wonderful.  She'll love them!

I realized I hadn't updated the books on the blog for awhile.  When I went to put the book in the Laura had already read through, I realized that it didn't belong in the fifth grade reading list.  After all, she is officially a sixth grader now.  So, I began a new list.

I have been letting Laura choose her own books to read this summer.  She has been choosing ones that are historical and yet still fun.  I am very careful about what she reads.  I don't want junk in her head.  I'm glad she has chosen such great books.
