Viking Quest 1, Raiders from the Sea - Book Review

I never was sure, while I was reading this book, if Laura liked it or not.  She was quiet during all the readings.  Sometimes she is full of questions.  With this book, she just listened.

Raiders from the Sea was a read aloud storytime book for  Heart of Dakota's Preparing Hearts for His Glory.  The story is about Briana O'Toole and her brother, Devin.  The story centers around these two characters when they are kidnapped from their home in Ireland by Viking raiders.  Both Christians, they deal with how to face life as prisoners.  Then, when they are separated and Devin is released, the two, devoted to each other and Christ, must face life without each other.

I enjoyed the book.  It was action packed and kept the reader on the edge of his seat.  I wasn't sure how Laura was enjoying the book.  She would talk about it during discussion time, but it wasn't something that she seemed overly interested in... until today.  As I read the last chapter and the book ended, Laura just looked at me dumbfounded.

"Is that it?"  She asked. "I want to know what happened next!"

I promised her that we would get the next book soon and she could read it on her own for reading.  I guess she was paying closer attention than I thought.

The book displays a very close relationship between brother and sister, Bree and Dev, even if they seem to have a normal bickering relationship in the beginning.  When times were challenging and their family was threatened, they pulled together and protected each other.  There is also a great example about trusting God, even when it doesn't seem that He is watching out for His people.  Add in the adventure and suspense and the book is one that is an incredible adventure.  I, too, look forward to reading the next book.
