Laura went with me today as I ran to pick up my oldest daughter from work. We spent about fifteen minutes talking about the upcoming school year (and she posed for this cute pic). It was nice to have one on one time with her. She is growing up so fast! We talked about beginning fifth grade. We discussed what would be expected of her. I feared she wouldn't want to buckle down the way I feel she needs to. Instead, she seemed to want a challenge. We agreed that, except for math, we are going to assign pages to work on in each subject instead of just time limits. If she finishes early, we are going to have other projects to work on or things for her to do.
She seems to be excited for the start of school. Maybe it is maturity or maybe she's just getting bored of summer vacation. Either way, she surprised me. We were discussing using a schedule and stated that she wanted to get started early. She said she didn't want to wait till later to begin. I told her that she was going to have things to do in the morning, like chores and a devotion with mom. She said that she still wanted to get up early. Imagine... a child wanting structure. Of course, actually doing it is different than talking about it.
With rougly a week until we begin, I am hoping to get everything ready this week. Weekends are always busy. I got very little accomplished this weekend. Add in a blown tire and my husband forgetting to pick up some boxes for last year's curriculum, and I already feel a day behind.
