One of the books I bought recently for Laura for this year is Captive Treasure by Milly Howard. I almost didn't buy it because it is a little under Laura's reading and grade level. Something told me to get it anyway. I am very glad I did.
I read the book in a very quick amount of time. The story is wonderful. Captive Treasure is a story about a young girl named Carrie that, while traveling with her parents with a wagon train, is captured by the Cheyenne Indians.
The story is beautifully told, and God is honored throughout the book. The spirits of the Indians are talked about and contrasted with our one, true, loving God in a way that children can understand. The characters are interesting. Many of the characters are very compassionate. For the age group, the story is done well. There is minimal violence and a tender ending. The story may have a kidnapping in it, but God is shown to be the one in control.
I am looking forward to Laura reading this story. I think it will ignite her imagination. There is some good history mixed with the reading. I enjoyed this book a lot.
