This week went quickly. I felt like Laura getting up early was not working the way it should. She enjoys getting her work done early and having the whole day to do as she wants, but issues were starting to form.
Math - Laura has had very few difficulties the last couple weeks. She has been reviewing what she learned last year about time and money, and then learning how to add and subtract the money part. She will soon be reviewing measuring, inches and centimeters. I'm not sure why all the review except that I figure new concepts are coming. I've been on Laura to keep practicing her multiplication and division facts so she stays strong in those areas.
Social Studies - In Social Studies Laura has been studying Africa and the missionary Dr. Livingstone. She loves studying missionaries. The fact that we just studies Africa in Mpact girls I think is helping her with these lessons.
Science - Laura is studying hygiene and the importance of good habits in Science. she is learning about the skin layers and hair follicles. She has learned about fungi and viruses and bacteria. She is getting ready to learn about anitbodies and how our bodies fight disease. I'm thinking about looking at the library for a video to back some of this up.
Word Building - Laura got a perfect score on her test the 26th of February. She missed three on her test on March 5. She has one more list before a large test, so we will see how she does. She got mixed up a little this last week on words with a g and words with a dg... like package and knowledge.
English - I had to make Laura stop getting up and doing her work at 6 in the morning. As much as I was proud of her independence and motivation, there was no denying that the quality of her work went down. English was one of those areas. She had no problems with pronouns, but truly was struggling with articles and adjectives. I worked with her for awhile one day and it began to click.
Literature and Creative Writing - Laura is still reading Charlotte's Web. She scored well on a pace test and has moved on to the last half of the book. In this pace she is learning about finding words smaller words in larger ones, comprehension, and dictionary skills. This coming week she will work on recall of facts from a picture, more dictionary skills, writing a newspaper headline and lead, labeling parts of a spider, and using your imagination to write descriptive sentences.
Character Traits - Laura has studied these character traits this week with ACE: Being Confident, Getting Wisdom, Being Compassionate, Being Persuasive, Being Thorough, and Being Truthful.
