Already I am making decisions and plans for summer. Laura has made a lot of progress this year in many areas. I don't want to see her slide backward this coming summer like she did last summer. I don't want to spend weeks reviewing what we already learned.
Summer is a relaxed, fun, easy-going time. I don't want to deprive my daughter of having a good summer by pushing her with school, school, school. That isn't my goal. Instead, I am thinking of a relaxed schedule. I still plan on giving Laura lots of breaks.
An hour a day should be sufficient to keep Laura's skills fresh. If she does a couple pages of math per day and some flash card work, I think her skills she has worked so hard on this year will be retained and maybe even grow. Plus, there will be no need for weeks worth of review in August.
Laura will still have times over the summer where she won't have work. When she goes to VBS would be a good week to take off of school. I know that Tasha plans to work all summer so she can graduate early. I am just not sure how disciplined I will be, let alone the girls.
I do know that this is up for serious consideration. It may be something we will "try" for a summer and see how things work out.
