Since Laura and I are reading Little House on the Prairie, I decided it would be fun to add some activities to supplement. These books are so wonderful, and I want Laura to really bond with the stories and time period. It shouldn't be too much of a problem since she watches the TV show obsessively. More than the TV show, I wanted to give her some hands on lessons.
I don't usually go for the hands on stuff. Laura doesn't like a lot of it either. I think some of the methods we have used for homeschooling have just been overkill. A little hands on here and there, in moderation, is fun.
I think we are going to start with a simple coloring sheet. I printed the one pictured off of homeschooling.about.com. I know that a coloring sheet isn't much of a challenge to a fourth grader. I'm not looking for a challenge, but just some fun things to help Laura feel a little more into the story.
I found a great idea for making homemade butter like Ma in the story. We may try that too.
