Weekly Wrap-Up January 29, 2010

This was a strange week.  Tasha was with her aunt and was gone all week.  Laura did very well this week.  She worked hard, and actually was done with her work early nearly every day.

In my weekly Wrap-Ups for Laura, I am now going to include the Character traits Laura has studied.  ACE puts a lot of focus on character training.  Each Pace she works on studies a different character trait.  In a standard year, Laura could easily work on over 70 different character traits.

Math - Laura is doing much better in math.  This is her weakest subject, yet I see her making a lot of progress.  Math It has been a wonderful addition to the ACE mathematics.  She is getting a lot of practice with her multiplication tables.

Science - Science this week was fun.  With one experiment and a hands-on lesson, this has been our best science week this year.  I was worried that ACE science would be dull, but it is so easy to supplement and make fun.  I get excited planning out the next week.  I may have to wait a few days as I ordered her next batch of lessons late.  However, Laura is going to read The Magic School Bus Insect Invaders.  By the time she finishes her new books will be here.

Social Studies - Laura likes Social Studies now.  She was never a big fan of it with any of the other curriculum.  She loves reading about the missionaries and the history.  This last week she read about the Pilgrims and Squanto.  Next week Laura is going to learn about William Carey and India.

English - Laura finished up plurals and common and proper nouns.  She is beginning verbs and subject nouns.

Literature and Creative Writing - Laura is halfway through The Red Rag Riddle.  Along with reading the book, she is learning about riddles, adjectives, compare and contrast words, and misspelled words.

Bible - Laura read John 12 through John 14 this week for her New Testament reading.

Reading - Laura finished Song of the Brook and The Choosey Cheater this week.  Next week she will be reading The Giggling Ghost and then Twenty and Ten.  On her own she is reading a Martha Finley book, the first one about Millie.

Read Aloud - We finished Ramona Quimby, age 8.  Next week we will be starting Little House on the Prairie.

Character Training -  This week Laura read and learned about Deference (giving up your rights in order to get along with others), being a friend, Commitment to Jesus, Being Joyful, Being Respectful, Being Efficient, Being Observant, and being Discreet

Next week looks like it might be a lot like this week.  Tasha's stay with her aunt may extend to two weeks, though she'll be home this weekend.
