Discovering Limestone

The experiment was simple.  It was in Laura's ACE Science lesson.  Laura collected some rocks from outside.  She brought them inside and washed them off.

Megan wanted to help.

Then we dried the rocks and laid them on a dish towel.

We took some vinegar.

We placed a few drops of vinegar on each rock.

The vinegar is supposed to bubble when placed on limestone.  It won't bubble on the other rocks.  Our rocks didn't bubble much, but a couple of them did a little.  I know one of them was limestone, but I fear my vinegar wasn't acidic enough. (I bought the vinegar for cleaning and didn't realize it was low acidic.)

Overall, we got the idea.  Laura has been studying rocks and minerals.  Today she learned what limestone is and what it looks like.  She even learned how to tell for sure if a rock is limestone or not.
