The School Christmas Concert

Two of my girls had their Christmas Concert today for school.  It's the one time the school does something on a Sunday, but it's in the afternoon after church services.  Kim, the senior, and Jasmine, the sixth grader, actually got to perform some of the same songs together.  It meant a lot to Kim for the two of them to be able to perform together before Kim graduates.

Jasmine performed first with the middle school.  She loves music and really seemed to enjoy the concert.  Pictures were a challenge to get with the podium in the way and lights washing everything out, so I switched to black and white for some shots.   As you can see, Jasmine really enjoys singing.  She has a beautiful voice, too.

The entire concert was very beautiful.   The children started out in robes and then switched to uniforms and outfits.  The director has been the choir teacher at the school for a long time.  She loves Christmas, and still chooses music that touches the heart and soul with the true meaning of the season... plus she adds some fun numbers.

Kim sang beautifully.  She's been having a rough time with her voice, so she didn't sing her solo.  However, she did sing the senior number and the rest of the songs.

It's hard to believe that this was my daughter's last school Christmas concert.  Next year she will be in college.  I've been going to these things since she was in Kindergarten.  Time has gone by so fast.  Now my oldest little girl is going to be graduating and starting her life.

Tasha got to be a part of the action too.  She may be a homeschooled kid now, but she has sung with this choir before just a couple years ago.  She joined her sister on stage with the choir to sing the Hallelujah Chorus.  Each year those who can and are willing are invited onto the stage with the choir to sing this song for the audience.  Knowing this is Kim's last year, Tasha joined her.

This picture of Kim and Jasmine is very special.  It isn't very often, with the difference in ages and grades, that they get to do something together... especially performing together.  I think it meant a lot to the both of them.

This was a wonderful concert that I hope to remember forever.  With my oldest graduating and my other children homeschooled, Jasmine may be the only one left still in public school.  While I love homeschooling with all my heart, I do miss these performances.  Living in a small community means that it is more challenging to find opportunities for choirs and other such activities.  Summer theater and church activities usually substitute.
