Laura is Sixteen!

My little Laura turned 16 today.  It was far from the birthday she wanted.  Sick with a virus, we ended up spending a couple hours in an ER.  However, illness aside, she is such a blessing!

She is Miss Independent, my list checker.  I used to make out her daily list of school to do, and she would check off her things as she completed them.  Now, I just make a plan a year's worth of assignments and she makes her own lists and goals.

She is Miss Witty.  Her sense of humor is quick and a bit dry. She sees the world through a unique lens, having been homeschooled since the third grade.  She is a good judge of character, and doesn't like a lot of drama.  She gets along with people from all ages.

She roots for the underdogs in life.  She gives attention to the ones that feel alone.  She has a very special bond with her autistic cousin.  He responds to her and listens to her.  She can get him to do crazy faces and he feels safe with her.

She is very much the introvert. She has her small group of friends that she is close to, and doesn't need a lot of attention.  She doesn't seek attention. She often needs to get alone to process information.

She is creative.  From building small worlds under the coffee table during read aloud time when she was younger, to filling notebook after notebook now with her stories, her mind is filled with other worlds.  She would rather read the book than watch a documentary or listen to a speaker. She loves to draw and paint, and her art is so pretty!

At sixteen, she is figuring out who she is. She loves to take long walks and will Skype or FaceTime her best friend that lives a few hours away.  She will go swing at the local park, loving to just be along with her music.

Laura is growing up quickly.  She brings light to my heart.
