Tonight, we read our final chapter. It is always sad to end a book and say goodbye to characters we love. Of course, Megan says we will read the book nine more times, so it isn't really goodbye.
As a treat, I rented the 1995 movie, A Little Princess. This movie holds as many or more memories than the book. The movie came out when my oldest, the one that bought the book for Megan, was four years old. We must have watched the video a hundred times over the years! Kim even had a plastic locket for years that came with the movie and was a replica of the one worn in the movie.
Megan loved the book, but the movie may be a new favorite. Most of the time the book far surpasses the movie. However, I think the different ending where the father is alive makes all the difference. The movie has humor and is so touching that it is difficult not to love it.
I plan to purchase the movie for Megan for her birthday in a few months.
Some stories just stay with you a lifetime.
