Last week I was finally recovered fairly well. The girls are back to piano lessons on Mondays.
Our homeschooling didn't stop through all the ups and downs of the last few weeks. For the most part, I have chosen curriculum that can be worked independently if necessary. Megan, my third grader, has big sisters that step up if she needs help and I am not here or am sick.
While this entire mess with my health has been a temporary thing as the doctor has discovered autoimmune issues and inflammation, I am hoping that through proper treatment and some dietary changes I have instilled, my health will improve. I was very happy to hear that I don't have a life-threatening illness requiring treatments that would take away my ability to teach my children.
It was also a relief that, should that day arrive, I have trained my children to be responsible. They complete their work well, and most of the time, don't need me. My older two work well to balance out their assignments with helping and supervising Megan.
This year I have a bit of an eclectic sort of curricula. Their independent, didactic spirit is not due to one particular curriculum. My girls know what is expected, and have proven to me that they can rise to the challenge.
I once read that a homeschooling mom can know she has done well when she works herself out of a job. My third grader may still need me, but the older two only ask questions about their lessons when they get stuck. That is happening less frequently.
So far, this has been our calmest homeschool school year.
