God-Centered Science Resources

I've been attempting to purchase homeschool materials for our school.  I've noticed something unique about how my ordering has changed over the years as I've gained experience and grown more certain and confident in what works best for us.

One of the things I thought was important was to fill my home with strong Christian resources.  Megan is only a first-grader.  We have many homeschooling years ahead of us, God willing.  Space for just amassing a large library, though my dream, isn't practical.  We are looking at relocating, and space could be limited.  Buying e-readers is tempting, but technology can fail too easily.  I've also seen how difficult certain texts can be to use in the digital format.

The God's Design for Science series has drawn my curiosity for a year or two.  I had a couple options open for science.  What tipped the scales was watching the Bill Nye vs Ken Ham debate.  I watched as Bill Nye did all he could to trash creationism.  It dawned on me that, though he said he would change his thinking with evidence, he had dismissed any and all evidence already. I doubt he will change his mind ever, because he has already made a choice to not believe in the authority of the Bible or the redeeming mercy of Christ.  It's a heart choice.  It's only after you have made the choice for Christ that the Holy Spirit opens your mind to the ideas that maybe God knows more than man.  I'm sure there are Christians that were convinced of Christ by first believing the evidence for a Creator.  But for most, we start looking for answers of our origins either as we are searching for Christ or have already decided to live for Him.  Lee Strobel is a former atheist that was searching to disprove Christ, and found Him instead.  Awesome... But most can't accept Christ until they open their hearts to Him.

I wanted resources that my daughter can go to over the next few years; where she can read about God's hand in creation.  With God's Word in the center of our school, Godly resources are important.  I love utilizing public libraries, but they are mostly one-sided in their views.

I'm praying through our curriculum choices for my children.  I'm looking for long-term materials, not just materials for the upcoming year.  I've spent a LOT of money over the years on homeschooling materials.  Much of those materials are reusable.  Some weren't, but I'm at peace with that.  Workbooks add up and are consumable, but there are times they are with the price because they save both mommy and student time and stress.

I have such peace about the direction we are moving in our homeschool.  The God's Design Series by Answers in Genesis looks to be an amazing tool to bring God to the forefront of our science lessons for the next several years.
