Moving On Up

I have noticed things with Megan over the last few weeks that were bugging me.  She has been progressing nicely in math and phonics, but she was bored in some of her other studies.

I purchased a Language Arts workbook for Megan to do to build on the phonics lessons, but it added a lot of time to our day.  It's also expensive to keep buying them.

Frustrated, I realized that it was ridiculous to keep spending money when I already had what was needed.
Megan began Little Hearts for His Glory last February.  I had been putting together her Kindergarten materials myself, but felt it was lacking.  Academically, she was doing well, but I knew there was more I wanted her to learn.

We had loved Little Hands to Heaven for preschool, so I decided it was timed to get back to Heart of Dakota.

We used Little Hearts for His Glory the rest of last school year.  We broke for summer and picked up where we left off when school started this past August.  Since the levels in Heart of Dakota are more age-based than grade-based, I thought things would be perfect.  However, we have just started November, and I have realized that Megan is ready for an advance in skills.

I realized that it was silly to keep her in a lower level when I purchased the next level up last February.
On Monday Megan will begin Beyond Little Hearts for His Glory.  I spent a couple hours transferring her phonics lessons, math lessons, etc. into the new guide.  I'm excited about the fact that Megan will be gently working on grammar, will be starting copywork, poetry, and spelling.

I may have to stop the handwriting program if it seems like too much writing for Megan.  For now, we'll take it a day at a time.

We had gone through 23 weeks of Little Hearts for His Glory.  Megan loved the program.  I planned to just finish it, but she just seemed so unchallenged.  She had already memorized all the songs.  We had already read the science and one of the main history selections before we even began Heart of Dakota.  It'll be nice to have new material that she hasn't already learned.

We are loving our learning time with Beyond Little Hearts and hope that you will, too!
