Calming Trepidation

It is time to begin to order curriculum for next year.  No matter how much I figure and try different packages, I am still spending a large chunk of money.   It can be scary, spending such a large amount, when we live so frugally.  And yet, after a year of buying bits here and there, and trying to make it all work, I just don't want to do that again... EVER!

Having the curriculum, the materials when I need them, where I need them, is such a relief.  There is nothing that brings as much peace.  With three children at three different ages and levels, it is a bit expensive to order three levels of everything.

I could combine my older two, with extensions, into one level.  I've thought about it.  It would be much cheaper.  However, I ran into a problem.  My oldest has to finish what she is using for high school credit.  We can't begin a new program until August.  However, my 7th grader is only days away from finishing nearly everything she has!  I hesitate to combine her with her sister because she would have to skip a level, or I would have to put my oldest in a program that she won't have time to do right now.  So, I am ordering separate programs for them each.

Laura will begin immediately.  She'll have about 60 days into the new program before we officially finish this year.  She'll be working on math over the summer at the very least.  Her older sister will also be working on things over the summer.  Whether we move to year-round school is a debate in our home.  With summer activities and teen mission, I am anticipating a very busy summer.

I have prayed and prayed over our curriculum choices.  My husband is in agreement with me.  So, even though we are investing quite a bit into curriculum, it is with the knowledge that I will reuse most of it multiple times.  The oldest program will go through three children!  That makes that amount not so pricey when I divide it by three.

So, as we venture into our sixth year of homeschooling next year, it is with the knowledge that we are doing what God has called us to do.  He never promised that the path would be easy, but only that He would walk with us through it.  And, He has.  He has been amazing!
