God's Hand In Life's Little Moments - A Review

Browsing through the Christian bookstore, I discovered that there are devotionals aplenty.  There's devotionals for women, men, teens, children, seniors, couples, and athletes.  While, as a Christian, the selection is wonderful, as a homeschooling mother, sometimes I feel that I am alone in what I am going through.  After all, while there may be thousands of other homeschooling Christian mothers out there, they aren't in my dining room teaching fractions to my math-challenged daughter.  They aren't in the living room going through the phonics lesson with the five year old.

Often encouragement is only a blog away.  Many times, when I am having a rough day, I can get online and read some of my favorite homeschool bloggers.  As they record the successes, challenges, projects, and frustrations, I can read and understand and feel an affinity for others that are in the trenches with me.

Last year I bought the devotional God's Hand In Life's Little Moments.  I was drawn by the fact that this was written by a homeschooling mom for other homeschooling moms.  Since I enjoy the curriculum, The Heart of Dakota, I liked that the author, Julie Grosz, uses the same curriculum and is the sister of Heart of Dakota's creator, Carrie Austin.

I've been going through the devotional for awhile now.  Even when I wasn't using Heart of Dakota, I enjoyed God's Hand in Life's Little Moments.  It is written for busy moms that are trying to be a God-honoring wife, mother, teacher, and woman. Each week is broken up to address each of these roles with the fifth day being a day of reflection.  The personal stories that Julie shares are honest and touching.  There is always a Bible connection with Scripture that directly relates to the topic of the week.  My favorites are the prayers that are written.  Sometimes just reading the devotion and the prayer bring me right to the feet of Jesus, pouring out my heart with love or seeking the comfort only He can provide.  I've come to believe that it is far from a coincidence that the topics that are brought up in the book are ones that I am dealing with in my heart.  I figure that God led me to this devotion for His purposes.

The devotion also has references to music CDs, either contemporary or traditional, sold on the Heart of Dakota website.  While I don't have either of the CDs yet, I am planning on purchasing the contemporary one.  I know many of the songs, and when the devotion references them, I often find myself singing the song with or without the CD.  The impact of music on personal devotion time is profound as it puts me immediately in a worshiping mood.

I have been very blessed by God's Hand In Life's Little Moments.  If you are a homeschooling mom, this little book is very encouraging and God honoring.
