I will cherish these items, like her old bread box and antique sugar container. However, between going through Grandma's things and our school materials, the clutter is overwhelming.
Of course, the addition of some of Grandma's things wasn't the problem. The clutter was already overwhelming us. Homeschooling three children this year, it seems that our schooling materials has quadrupled. Before I could adjust, the clutter seemed overwhelming.
A part of me wants a schoolroom. I'm getting ready to order next year's materials, and there is nowhere to put them. But, since money is EXTREMELY limited, I just need to be creative. Using what we have, purging what we don't need, organizing... I'm praying for God's leading. It's more important to me to spend our limited funds on quality curriculum than on an expensive room.
Ironically, a schoolroom to me doesn't mean desks. It means shelves of living books, a comfy chair or bean bags to read in, a big table and a couple chairs for written work and projects and science experiments. Walls covered in the kids' artwork. Art supplies, school supplies, and manipulatives all nearly organized. I want a user-friendly room.
I'm not sure how it'll all work, or if it will all work. We have been using the dining room table and the living room couch for most of our schooling for years. But... I miss being able to have my table free to actually sit around for dinner. I miss not having to have to totally reorganize our dining room every time we want to play board games. It's time to pray and brainstorm new ideas.
I'll fill you in as I get it all figured out.
