This is our last week of school before Christmas Break. Laura and Jasmine are finishing up some work. Jasmine is trying to complete her Algebra.
For Megan, it's review week for her phonics. She is using Hooked on Phonics. She has done well with this program. I supplement with lots of other reading, some Explode the Code, some Ace Word Building for 1st Grade. Megan is learning to read, and she is enjoying the process. For me, that is half the battle. If she enjoys it, she will be more likely to retain it.
Today I let Megan play some of the games on the Hooked On Phonics website. When you buy the program, register it on the Hooked on Phonics site. With registration comes a plethora of games, worksheets, mini-books, songs, and even recommended books to go with the levels. This has been a wonderful supplement for the program. We have printed out and put together many of the mini-books. I like the supplementation that the worksheets give in enforcing the lessons. Megan enjoys the games immensely.
I'm trying to be more relaxed this week about our schooling. We are all looking forward to a break, to spending the holidays with family.
