This week we began Bible time in the morning. I decided to use the Wisdom Unit Study published by Robin Sampson of Heart of Wisdom. I had purchased the study last year as well as Walking Wisely by Charles Stanley. I can say honestly that, even though we are only on day 4, we are LOVING the study! Laura and Jasmine get up every morning asking if we are going to do the Bible study. The last two days we have included dad in the study since it was his days off of work.
I love how the study is more than just Bible reading. Today we had a time of questions where the girls had to write a list of unwise decisions in their notebooks. Then, we went around discussing the unwise decisions and consequences. Having a family discussion about topics such as stealing, lying, gossip, and even premarital s*x was powerful. We discuss these topics as they come up in life, but rarely with the direct approach of asking the girls to think about how the consequences of these choices not only could change their lives on the outside, but also their relationship with Christ.
I am taking our time with this study. We are going through the activities, one by one, slowly. We are reading the Bible chapters and verses aloud. I want them to do the hands on things. I want them to make the notebooks. I want them to think about the study, to write the essays, to pray it through. Wisdom is, as the Bible says, more precious than Silver. We can't rush our way through a study such as this and believe our children will then be wise. In fact, seeking wisdom is a life-long habit, a continual journey. I am hoping that a deep foray into Biblical wisdom will be a starting point for their entire lives.
